The novel Dilan 1990 by Pidi Baiq has succeed to gain girl's heart all over Indonesia. This novel is written in Milea's point of view about her charming, unique, and astonishing boyfriend named Dilan. The story took place in Bandung, West Java. In 1990, while Milea was still a high school girl, she met this mysterious guy named Dilan. Milea was on her way to school, and suddenly Dilan came on his motorbike and started to tell fortunes to her. She was completely confused at that time, but through time she'll realize that it was Dilan's unique technique to get her attention.
At that time, Milea was still in a long distance relationship with (name). But, Dilan could always made her forget about his current boyfriend, and made her fall in love with Dilan more and more. On her birthday, Dilan gave Milea a completed crosswords playbook, which made her and her mom drown in laughter of confusion. In the other side, there was also another guy who had a crush with Milea, a college student from ITB, Kang Adi. He gave Milea an expensive novel with hard to understand writings, in order to impress Milea with his high level of intelligence. But, Dilan's ridiculous gift was more impressing than Kang Adi's book. There will be a lot of comparison between Kang Adi and Dilan. There are a lot of examples written, such as, Kang Adi always take Milea out using his brand new car, but Milea prefers Dilan and his motorbike. Kang Adi also gave a cool varsity jacket to Milea, but still Milea choose Dilan's Korean biking jacket. She always sleep with Dilan's jacket and says good night to Dilan, even though it was only said in her heart.
From this book, I can assume that Dilan has reached a maximum prefect image of a guy that every girl adore. He always protects Milea from danger, and this was his promised, which became a famous quote of the book. "Milea, jangan pernah bilang ke aku ada yang menyakitimu, nanti, besoknya, orang itu akan hilang." in english it says "Milea, never tell me that someone hurts you, later, tomorrow, the guy will dissapear."
I could infer that Dilan has such an amazing personality that impresses the readers. Thanks to Pidi Baiq, now every boy in Indonesia should be Dilan, HAHA. But, seriously, Dilan really respects Milea as a woman and every guy should know about this.
The story ends when Dilan proclaim that they're dating by signing a paper (more like a contract paper)
Their love story wasn't a mainstream one, this made people give a big credit to the novel. All I can say that, I really like the first book. The language is easy, there are many pictures in it, the plot is good, and everything written in this book really touches all the right parts.
